The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary has been a private setting for western genre movie making for nearly 20 years!! Spectacular canyons, miles of the Cheyenne River, 11,000 acres of pristine prairie lands, wild horses everywhere....a historical western setting perfect for location shooting for all venues! Susan Watt, Program Director at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary and Location Manager Rep, Karla LaRive of Studio West Management have teamed up since 2004 to provide first class location services to film, television and music entertainment projects looking for spectacular western backdrops. The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary's western location features historic pioneer buildings including; 1870s Fort Robinson set, restored 1890s one-room school house, Native American petrogylphs, Cheyenne River and over 500 wild mustangs. The Sanctuary is privately owned and does not require a film permit. There are no paved roads and telephone lines. The Sanctuary is conveniently located 14 south of Hot Springs and 65 miles south of Rapid City Regional Airport and accessible to many local amenities including hotel rooms and services.
