Menno Tops Highlanders 58-54
MENNO -- The Menno Wolves pulled off a fourth quarter comeback as they won their home opener against Scotland Tuesday 58-54.
For Menno, Noelle Link put up 15 for the win. Breanne Willmeth had 14. Megan Smidt went to the glass for eight rebounds.
Dawn Pavel scored 12 for Scotland. Kim Schlimgen added 11 points while Sarah Chladek and Sally Diede each scored 10 points. Diede also had eight rebounds. Carissa Walloch led all rebounders with 11.
Scotland won the JV game 42-22.
Menno goes to Irene on Thursday.

IRENE -- Menno topped Irene 54-32 in girls basketball action Thursday 54-32.
For Menno Breanne Willmeth led the team with 20 points. She also had nine steals as well. Tami Groen was also in double digits with ten. Kim Herrboldt was on top of the boards tonight as she pulled in eight rebounds.
Irene's Jana Brockmueller was the high scorer with 13 points She also led all rebounds with eight rebounds. Kristen Fistro was also dominant with ten points. Molly Hansen gave the team four assists.
Menno also won the JV game, 30-17.
Irene plays Hurley at home on Tuesday.

MENNO -- Menno took control early in their game on Tuesday night and didn't let go of the lead throughout in a 64-50 win over Marion.
Carmen Herrboldt led Menno with 20 points. Tami Groen put 12 points through the net and also brought down nine rebounds. Breanne Willmeth contributed ten points to the winning effort.
For Marion, Sara Haiar and Ann Dykstra each scored 12 points. Lindsay Dykstra put through ten points. Haiar grabbed nine rebounds in the game.
In junior varsity action, Marion topped Menno 35-28. They will next host Bridgewater on Thursday while Menno will take on Freeman Academy, also at home.

WOLVES STAY PERFECT WITH 53-43 WIN
MENNO: Menno keeps their perfect record, now 4-0, as they downed Freeman Academy 53-43 on Thursday night.
Breanne Willmeth led Menno with 12 points, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocked shots. Kim Herrboldt also had ten points in the game. Both Herrboldt and Megan Smidt had eight rebounds.
Lacey Graber led Freeman Academy with 21 points. Colleen Dyck led in rebounding with seven.
Menno also took the junior varsity game, 48-24. They will play at Freeman on Tuesday and Freeman Academy will host Viborg on Saturday.

FREEMAN -- The Menno Wolves remained perfect on the season and in Cornbelt Conference play with a 54-50 victory over the Freeman Flyers Tuesday in girls' basketball action.
Menno led 21-7 after the opening period, then held off Freeman's second-half surge for the win.
Carmen Herrboldt led a balanced Wolves attack with 14 points. Megan Smidt netted 13 points. Breanne Willmeth pumped in 11 points. Tami Groen pulled down 11 rebounds.
Jenny Schultz led Freeman with 22 points and seven rebounds. Stacy Preheim had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Brooke Hermsen added 10 points for the Flyers. Erin Horning dished out six assists.
Menno pulled out an overtime victory in the JV game, 35-31.
The Wolves, 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cornbelt Conference, takes on Emery next. Freeman, 2-3 and 1-2, travels to Viborg.

Wolves Stay Perfect With OT Win
MENNO -- Menno remains undefeated, now with a 6-0 record, as they just squeaked by Emery in overtime 56-53 on Thursday night.
Menno charged out scoring 11 points in the first four minutes, but cooled off some and allowed Emery to tie the game at half 21-21. The game ended regulation time with a tie at 46. Menno hit some critical free throws in overtime to pull off the win.
Carmen Herrboldt scored 15 points to lead Menno. Breanne Willmeth added 14 points and also led in rebounds with four. Megan Smidt also had 10 points and four rebounds.
Beth Schulte knocked in 12 points for Emery while Brooke Swier put up 10. Stephanie Peters nabbed 10 rebounds as well as seven assists and five steals in the game.
Menno also took the junior varsity game, 34-22. They will host Montrose on Thursday. Emery travels to Hanson to play on Tuesday.

MENNO -- Menno stays perfect on the season, beating Montrose in front of their home crowd on Thursday 54-39.
For Menno, Breanne Willmeth and Carmen Herrboldt each picked up 12 points to lead the team. Tami Groen and Megan Smidt each added ten. Smidt also had four blocked shots.
Andrea McAreavey was the high scorer for Montrose with 12. Dusti Wagner picked up a double-double with 11 points, and 10 rebounds. Beth Zimmer pulled down 11 rebounds.
Menno also won the JV game 40-18.
Menno plays next in the Cornbelt tournament against Freeman. Montrose takes on Hansen in the same tourney.

Cornbelt Conference Tourney Battles Begin
Flyers Upset Menno In Cornbelt Opener
MARION -- Freeman, Canistota, Emery and Hanson picked up opening round victories in the Cornbelt Conference girls basketball Tournament Tuesday.
Freeman opened the tournament with the upset of the day with a 46-39 win over the Menno Wolves, giving the Wolves their first loss of the season.
Menno looked strong in the first quarter, jumping out to an 11-8 lead. Unfortunately things went downhill from there, as Freeman overtook them in the second quarter and padded their lead throughout the game.
Jenny Schultz was a major factor in the Freeman win, scoring 26 points along with grabbing 10 rebounds. Alisa Mendel also had 17 points for the game.
On the Wolves side, Breanne Willmeth scored 11 points. Carmen Herrboldt pulled down 11 rebounds.
Menno will play Bridgewater on Thursday.

In the consolation round, Menno defeated Bridgewater 50-27.
Breanne Willmeth led Menno with 14 points. The Wolves were 20 of 60 from the field and 8 of 10 from the line with 35 rebounds and 18 turnovers.
Nikki Cable had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bridgewater Wildcats.
Bridgewater was 11 of 59 from the field and five of 16 from the line. They had 26 rebounds and 25 turnovers on the night.
Menno improves to 8-1 and Bridgewater falls to 4-7.

Menno defeated Montrose 61-45 for fifth place
Megan Smidt led Menno with 14 points. Breanne Willmeth added 12 points and Carmen Herrboldt tossed in 10. The 9-1 Wolves made 21 of 57 field goals and 11 of 20 free throws.
Jesse Yount paced Montrose with 12 points. The team shot 19 of 54 on field goals and seven of 22 on free throws.
Menno travels to Canistota Tuesday.

Hanson Takes Cornbelt Title
MARION -- Hanson used a big second quarter to pull away from Freeman and win the Cornbelt Conference Tournament 70-49 Saturday.

CANISTOTA -- The Menno Wolves extend their winning streak to three, defeating Canistota in Canistota, 46-39.
Breanne Willmeth scored 16 points to lead Menno, and Carmen Herrboldt added with 10. Megan Smidt aimed high with 12 rebounds.
For Canistota, Erica Woltzen had 22. Julia Lindbloom led all rebounders with 13, and Amber Diede had 10.
Menno also won the B game 36-30.
Canistota's next game is at Tripp Delmont. Menno takes on Centerville.

CENTERVILLE -- Centerville came back after the first quarter to defeat Menno 63-55 in basketball action Thursday.
Centerville was led by Jill Austin with 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Rachel Evans had 14 rebounds for the Tornadoes. Patricia Bertrand had five assists.
Carmen Herrboldt had 22 points for Menno. Breanne Willmeth had 11 and Tami Groen had 10 points in the loss. Megan Smidt was the leading rebounder with 11.
Centerville also won the JV game 40-25.
Centerville is now 13-1 on the season and will face Gayville-Volin on Tuesday. Menno is 10-2 on the season and will play Freeman in the Hutchinson County tournament on Monday.

Freeman, Parkston Record Wins
FREEMAN -- In the first round of the Hutchinson County Tournament Monday, Freeman edged Menno 43-41 and Parkston topped Tripp-Delmont 59-50.
Freeman held a 17-12 halftime lead and held off a fourth-quarter rally by Menno to win by two.
Stacy Preheim led Freeman with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Alisa Mendel added 10 points and Breanne Willmeth dished out six assists. The Flyers made 15 of 38 field goals for 40 percent and 10 of 17 free throws for 58 percent and totaled 20 rebounds.
Menno was paced by Carmen Herrboldt and Megan Smidt with 10 points each. Tami Groen grabbed seven of the Wolves' 26 rebounds. The 11-3 team made 18 of 53 field goals for 33 percent and five of six free throws for 83 percent.
Parkston took a 27-20 lead after two quarters and went on to the nine-point win.
Parkston was led by Amber Powell with 28 points.
Sarah Fideler and Brenda Huether each scored 13 points to lead Tripp-Delmont. Barb Polreis added 10 counters for the Wildcats.

Parkston Tops Freeman For Hutch Title
FREEMAN -- In the championship game, Parkston defeated Freeman 64-51 in the Hutchinson County Tournament Tuesday.
Amber Powell scored 29 points to lead the Lady Trojans. Sara Sudbeck had 13 points and nine rebounds on the night. Kassy Laber had eight rebounds and Jill Reichert had five assists.
Parkston shot 26 of 61 for 43 percent and 8 of 17 for 47 percent from the line with 11 turnovers.
Freeman's leading scorer was Jenny Schultz with 20 points. Alisa Mendel had 12 points on the night. Brooke Hermsen led the defense with 11 rebounds followed by Stacy Preheim and Schultz with eight each.
Freeman shot 20 of 47 for 43 percent from the field and 9 of 15 for 60 percent from the line with 16 turnovers.
Parkston is 10-5 on the season and travels to Bon Homme Thursday. Freeman is 9-5 on the season and will host Centerville Thursday.
In the third place game, Tripp-Delmont defeated Menno 69-56.
Barb Polreis was the leading scorer for the Lady Bobcats with 20 points. Sarah Fideler had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jill Hanten had eight rebounds on the night.
Menno was led by Breanne Willmeth with 22 points. Carmen Herrboldt had 15 points followed by Megan Smidt with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Tripp-Delmont was 25 of 55 for 45 percent from the field and 17 of 28 for 61 percent from the line with 14 turnovers.
Menno was 18 of 71 for 25 percent from the field and 14 of 24 from the line with 15 turnovers.
Tripp-Delmont is 9-4 on the season and host Emery on Friday. Menno is 10-4 and will travel to Viborg Friday.

VIBORG -- The Menno Wolves increased a winning record on Tuesday defeating Viborg in Viborg by the score of 46-35.
For Menno Megan Smidt had 11 points and 15 rebounds for double-double. Breanne Willmeth and Noelle Link each had 10.
Melissa Andersen was the high scorer for Viborg with 18 points, and also grabbed seven rebounds. Christie Kolthoff finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The JV game was won by Menno .
Viborg plays at Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday.

ALEXANDRIA -- Top-ranked Hanson remained perfect on season with a 77-58 victory over Menno in Cornbelt Conference girls basketball action Saturday.
Amanda Williams scored 23 points and had 10 assists to lead Hanson. Jenny Bridge netted 18 points. Emily Klinkhammer added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Breanne Willmeth led Menno with 19 points. Megan Smidt scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Carmen Herrboldt added 10 points for the Wolves.
Hanson won the prelim 50-19.
Hanson, 18-0 and 7-0 in the Cornbelt Conference, hosts McCook Central Tuesday. Menno, 11-5 and
5-1, travels to Mitchell Christian Tuesday.

Menno traveled to the Corn Palace to play the Golden Eagles and won by the score of 69-31.
Menno had a balanced scoring night with Breanne Willmeth, Carmen Herrboldt, and Tami Groen each scoring 14 points. Megan Smidt also contributed 10 points.
Mitchell Christian was paced by Amaris Hofer with 19 points.
Menno also won the JV game.

MENNO -- Menno was able to take its last game of the year defeating Bridgewater by the score of 66-34.
For Menno, Megan Smidt led all scorers with 13 points. Tami Green also contributed with 12 points and eight rebounds. Carmen Herrboldt added with 10 points, and Breanne Willmeth pulled down 10 rebounds.
Callan Jarabek was the only player in double figures for Bridgewater with 14.
Menno also won the JV game, 40-27.
Both teams play in the district tournament on Tuesday.

Freeman, Emery Advance In 10B
FREEMAN -- Emery and Freeman each recorded wins in District 10B Monday night.
Emery topped Freeman Academy 40-29 and Freeman cruised to a 76-33 win over Bridgewater.
Emery was led by Lisa Ernster with 20 points. Brooke Swier added 11 points and Rachel VanLeur grabbed 13 of the team's 33 rebounds. Stephanie Peters dished out seven assists and nabbed five steals.
The Eagles shot 18 of 51 on field goals for 35 percent and four of 12 on free throws for 33 percent.
Freeman Academy was paced by Lisa Graber with 10 points. Colleen Dyck had nine of the Bobcats' 27 boards and Tracy Barta snared eight caroms.
The team made 10 of 36 field goals for 29 percent, three of 10 three-pointers for 30 percent, and zero of six free throws.
Alisa Mendel had 25 points and four assists to lead Freeman while Jenny Schultz totaled 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and eight steals. Brooke Hermsen added 16 points and Erin Horning dished out four assists.
The Flyers shot 19 of 35 field goals for 54 percent, 11 of 20 three-pointers for 55 percent, and five of nine free throws for 56 percent.
Lisa McCormick, Crystal Liesinger, Callan Jarabek paced Bridgewater, and Rachel Paweltzki with six points apiece. Liesinger, McCormick, and Jarabek each snared three caroms while Liesinger dished out five assists and Paweltzki had four steals.
The Wildcats shot 15 of 37 on field goals and zero of five on free throws.
Tonight (Tuesday) in Freeman, Freeman faces Menno while Emery meets Tripp-Delmont.

FREEMAN -- Tripp-Delmont and Freeman will advance to the championship game Thursday at 7 p.m. in Freeman after semi-final victories Tuesday.
In the first game, Tripp-Delmont led the entire game on its way to a 34-24 victory over Emery.
For Tripp-Delmont, Barb Polreis had nine points and Sarah Fideler had eight points. Jill Hanten was the leading rebounder with 5 of the 27 team rebounds.
Emery was led by Lisa Ernster with eight points and Beth Schulte with seven. Rachel Vanleur had 12 of the 28 team rebounds.
Tripp-Delmont was 12 of 37 for 32 percent from the field and 10 of 15 for 67 percent from the line with 12 turnovers.
Emery was 10 of 29 for 34 percent from the field and 6 of 21 for 29 percent from the line with 17 turnovers.
In the second game of the night, Freeman held off Menno to win 54-50 and advance to the championship game.
Jenny Schultz had 16 points and Alisa Mendel had 15 points to lead the Flyer offense. Schultz was also the leading rebounder with nine of the 24 team rebounds.
For Menno, Vanessa Smidt and Carmen Herrboldt each had 10 points in the loss. Kim Herrboldt was the leading rebounder with eight of the 33 team rebounds.
Freeman was 15 of 35 for 43 percent from the field and 12 of 21 for 57 percent from the line. Menno was 18 of 64 for only 28 percent from the field and 9 of 15 for 60 percent from the line.
Both teams had 16 turnovers on the night.
