The Early Intervention Program provides early intervention services to families of infants and toddlers (birth-5 year olds) with developmental delays and/or disabilities.  The Project is funded by the Department of Education under the Part C (Birth-2 years) and Part B (3-5 years) of the Individual with Disabilities Act (IDEA).

The Program is administered by the RST Education Department and provides services in four areas:

                          *Child Find for Early Identification

                          *Developmental Screening/Evaluation

                          *Parent Training

                          *Early Intervention Services

The Lakota Tiwahe Centers’

primary goals are to work toward:

                          *decreasing the number of children

                          born with disabilities and develop-

                          mental delays.

*decreasing the number of births to

                          teenage mothers (LTC understands

that teenagers are at a greater risk

of having babies born with defects

                          and developmental delays due to

consumption and lack of prenatal care.)

*Screening all babies born on the

                          Rosebud Reservation at six months

of age for physical and mental

                          developmental delays.
